The right website promotion takes planning, focus, effort,
passion and time (small scattered investments too). It is not
magic! it has never been and it will never be. However, it is
perfectly achievable and it feels great when the work finally
pays off.
Website Promotion
Choosing Your Niche:
Your website
promotion starts with the right niche.
The internet
today has virtually every imaginable topic of life. It is an
amazing source of all-information.
If you are choosing a
competitive niche then get in through a corner, no through the
wide open middle. How? Easy, you will need to learn how to
research non competitive
keywords and use those
keyword as your
focus on some articles within your site.
These are the
pages which will be at the corner of your site and get visitors
into your main and most competitive content. Search engines will
do as well and eventually give you the importance you deserve.
Website Promotion
Your
Talent spread into ink:
You may not
be an artist or a seasoned writer, but what you are is an
individual who is experienced about a particular topic in life,
or at least are passionate about something. Take that and turn
it into money-generating content. Information is the soul of a
website. How to get content? My personal favorite strategy is the old book-borrowing trick,
followed by the tired "put the topic into your own words" saga.
For instance, booksellers such as Barnes & Noble allow you to
buy a book and return it within 30 days for your money back
(keep the receipt or you will have to keep the book).
With this
you are not plagiarizing content, you are borrowing knowledge
and extending it to the world using your own voice. Free website
promotion and traffic cannot be achieved without high quality
content. Search engines are looking for reality, qualified
related information for their demanding visitors. Give it to
them!
Website Promotion
The Right
Design:
These days, you
do not need to be a designer to have a well-designed website. It just takes a bit of knowledge of any
web-editing tool (such as Front Page, now called or Dreamweaver) and your
favorite photo editor. The rest, you can leave it to the magic
of pre-canned website templates. There are thousands of great
looking templates on the web, which you may acquire for the
modest sum of $40 and up (or even Free!). You will be amazed to see what these
templates look like for the mount your are paying.
Website Promotion
The Right
Domain Name:
Selecting or
changing a domain name is a critical website promotion decision.
The problem is much more than a simple availability search at
the domain registrar. Your domain name must at first site
represent your niche and your informational offerings. A good
domain name is easy to say in person, easy to understand over
the radio or telephone, easy to spell, easy to type, easy to
read in print and online ads and easy to read in the address
bar. Also, no more than 22 characters long.
Website Promotion
The Right
Hosting Package:
Today, hosting
is perfectly affordable and at the reach of any amateur or
hardcore web entrepreneur. In most cases,
hosting packages start
at 2.95 /mo, with much more space, and bandwidth that you will
need.
Free domains, control panel, email accounts, even web
templates and some complementary start-out tools and deals which
will make your website promotion even easier.
So now
you have a niche, a design and a hosting package, this is where
your website promotion begins.
Website
Promotion - The Right SEO Tools
Ok, here is
where it gets down and dirty.
Search Engine Optimization (SEO)
is what will position your site where others will see it without
directly paying for traffic (I say "directly" because although
you will end up generating free traffic, you may have to invest
a few bucks on your SEO tools, or maybe not, who knows).
No
SEO tools,
no website promotion, they are your essential, indispensable
partner in your quest to promoting your site and marketing.
These
SEO tools will help you
find non competitive
ranking-achievable keywords, calculate their odds to make it to
the top of all mighty Google and the others. They will help you
mimic what your competitors are doing to have such success, and
guide you through the full optimization of your site by simply
adding information to it, in an organized, planned and purposed
way to push your site up to where visitors can see it.
Website
Promotion - Your On Page Optimization
On page optimization means making
the necessary changes to your content copy, meta tags, title
tags and <H1>..<H2> tags to let search engines spider through your
HTML code and make a decision based on relevance. Search engines
will use their algorithms to calculate whether your content has
the relevance needed to place in the proper crowd so readers can
benefit from it. Your content copy should have a decent amount
of content, see your competitor's page for that particular
keyword and try to meet and exceed their intellectual offerings.
Besides all that, search engines
need to navigate through your site easily, as part of your
website promotion efforts, consider having a website with easy
navigation. Search engines must be able to reach all your pages
right from your website home. Use a main menu that appears
consistently on every page.
Also use a footer map, with links to
all the main pages of your website, which will help search
engines follow the trail from your tier-1 through your tier-2
pages; which will in turn link to your tier-3 pages (I wouldn't
recommend going too deep to tier-4 and down. Search engines are
lazy
creatures, they
don't like to dig in that deep.).
Another website promotion trick is
to create a page called sitemap.html (which should be one of your Tier-2 pages, and
accessible from your home) with links to all the pages on your
website, displayed in a hierarchical way.
Start with that
corner page by doing a Keyword Suggestion search in
Web SEO. Look at your competitors for those keywords
and analyze their content.
Exceed their keyword repetition
within your
content copy; It has to make sense though, remember your readers
can tell what reality is and you want your readers to spend time
on your site.
Website
Promotion - Your Off Page Optimization
Off page criteria or optimization is basically indirectly
related to your actual text copy. It relates to behavioral
information search engines take in consideration to rank your
site. For instance, Google calculates the time visitors spend on
your site, that counts as "interesting and well-written
content", this tells Google that visitors find a real benefit on
your site.
Another aspect of off-page criteria is
inbound links to your site. Search engines see this as a real
tribute other sites pay to yours because you have quality
information. Link building is the single most important aspect of
your "off page" website promotion strategy.
