Lifestyle and Relationships Today

You are in: 9Searches.org > Lifestyle & Relationships

Lifestyle refers to the way people live and spend their time. Lifestyle includes the kind of values one has, the kind of products and services one consumes and the way one tries to earn, live and spend his time and income. Naturally, then relationships are also a part of one's lifestyle. In other words, lifestyle influences and is simultaneously influences the kind of relationships one has.

Let us take an illustration to understand the relation between lifestyle and relationships. A manager of a company having a good pay package and status will spend most of his time with similar kinds of people. Naturally, his tastes and habits would be influenced by the them. He will, therefore, more probably, get into relationships with people who are like hi. No wonder, people of a lower status than him and one higher than him too will fail to identify with him much and this shall create a situation where he will not have relationships with them. Therefore, it is rare to find a personal relationship between a CEO and a worker in a factory.

Modern lifestyle is hectic and based on a dog eats dog kind of mentality. This is indicative of a more self centered mentality. This naturally is affecting the relationships. Value-less lifestyle patterns have ensured that people have less space for their relatives and loved ones. The demand for more personal space has also led to breaking of families. No wonder, there is a significant increase in old age homes and divorced couples.

Lifestyles and relationships vary greatly across social spheres. It is seen that poor and those with lower incomes and consequently less sophisticated lifestyles have more time for relationships. They generally have greater community participation and less of loneliness. Any targeted move to enhance lifestyles and embolden relationships must look at this intricate mix between the two.
